Position:

We are currently recruiting for a Project Engineering Manager. This rewarding opportunity under the direction of the VP has overall responsibility for the successful execution of assigned projects while providing Quality Assurance/Quality Control, direction and mentorship. The role requires deliverable application solutions that satisfy business and other stakeholder needs. This person has proven Management and Mentoring of staff, superb PM skills, in-depth technical know how coupled with a fantastic sales like demeanor when interacting with clients and vendors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of experience or a Registered Technologist with a minimum of 10 years of experience. Eligible for registration with APEGGA. Member of ASET.
  • Experience in all facets of solution delivery including QA/QC, leadership, and proven Project Management methodology. Participates in short and long range planning. Originality and ingenuity are required for devising practical and economical solutions to problems.
  • Makes responsible decisions not usually subject to technical review, on all matters assigned except those involving large sums of money or long-range objectives. Establishes courses of action necessary to expedite the successful accomplishment of assigned projects.
  • Advanced communication/negotiation skills. Able to integrate across all levels of the organization.
  • Specific Responsibilities:

  • As the Prime, will be responsible for monitoring consultants, fabricators, contractors and vendors and if additional resources are required or issues arise address these situations jointly with the VP.
  • Directing and overseeing the development of project specific plans and drawings, specifications, tendering and purchasing equipment, materials and services from approved vendors, contractors and fabricators.
  • Preparing and acquiring regulatory permits and licenses necessary to complete the work and if prepared by others, responsible for confirming that the information is correct before submission to the authorities.
  • On larger projects, in-charge of completing in-field engineering quality check including inspection using P&ID's, line list, plot plans and control schematics, shutdown keys of piping and electrical/controls systems and as well assisting with commissioning and start-up. On smaller projects, in-charge of ensuring quality checks are performed by the Construction Supervisor's and contractors with periodic engineering surveillance inspections.
  • In charge of completing project closeouts within the required time lines including reconciling costs, finalizing contracts permits and licenses, obtaining, distributing and filing as-built drawings, data sheets, operating manuals and data books and quality control documentation. Responsible for identifying, reporting and assisting with reconciling any deviation to project standards, practices, policies and specifications.
  • As directed by the VP, responsible for assisting with the technical development, mentoring and training of more junior engineers/ technicians.
  • Provide orientation to Engineering department for all new hires. Assist with performance plan development for all staff on an annual basis.
  • Responsible for the assisting the development of departmental processes that will minimize workload, improve quality, safety and costs.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta Oil and Gas applications will be considered first.
  • Up to 25% travel.
