REPORTS TO: Manager of Drafting and Design
Summary
The role of the senior designer/checker is to oversee all facets of a job from start to finish. This position provides intermediate and junior designers with initial design sketches, as well as technical support throughout the project. Ongoing responsibilities include documenting and checking all vendor revisions, control of internal drawings and checking all final construction & as-built drawings. The senior designer/checker works in conjunction with the senior project engineer/technologist.
Responsibilities
Participate in strategic planning sessions with management team to discuss the best possible piping design and process philosophy for each project.
Produce critical and optional drawings from the beginning to the end of a project using AutoCAD
Allocate work to drafting staff and also check their work to ensure it meets the requirements for accuracy, drafting standards, and constructability
Develop Drafting department standards based on staff feedback and client requirements
Provide ongoing coaching to all drafting staff
Liaise with Engineering department to provide one consistent point of contact for all projects
Regular meetings with Engineering department to ensure all projects are understood by drafting team
Oversee drafting projects by tracking progress and meeting deadlines
Regular reporting on all projects to senior management
