Intermediate/Senior Instrumentation and Controls Specialist

REPORTS TO:  Manager, Electrical and Instrumentation

Position Summary:

The dual role of the Instrumentation and Controls Specialist is to oversee all instrumentation and control needs of a project from start to finish. This position provides an interaction with other disciplines such as process engineering for P&ID development, electrical for PLC I/O schematics, mechanical for the correct location of instrumentation, because of these requirements this position requires excellent communication skills.  In addition to the interaction with other disciplines the Instrumentation and Controls Specialist is required to develop instrument indices, specifications, and purchasing of said instrumentation, and controls,

Responsibilities  

  1. Participate in P&ID development.
  2. Produce Instrument Indexes for the required project.
  3. Produce specification sheets for required instrumentation.
  4. Prepare purchase orders/requisitions.
  5. Produce I/O schematics.
  6. Develop control systems narratives.
  7. Develop shutdown keys.
  8. Responsible for identifying, reporting and assisting with reconciling any deviation to project standards, practices, policies and specifications.
  9. Mentor junior personnel.
  10. Working within project manhour budgets and schedules.

Credentials

  1. Technical certification in Instrumentation from an accredited institution.
  2. First hand engineering knowledge of PLC/DCS controls as it relates to all types of facilities that require automation.
  3. Strong working knowledge of instrumentation as it relates to all types of Facilities that require automation.
  4. Experience at preparing estimates for the Instrumentation and Controls portions of a project.
  5. Experience overseeing all aspects of the project, including designing and commissioning.
  6. Strong working background with PLCs such as Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc.
  7. Strong working background with HMIs such as GE, Wonderware, Panelview.
  8. Minimum 10 years design experience.
